Overview
Video Poker Tutor (VPT) is both a fun-to-play video poker game and a training tool that can help you
learn the best cards to hold in the various situations that arise. You can play Jacks or Better,
Deuces Wild or Double Bonus video poker.
Basic Play
Touch
Deal to start a new hand. Then touch the cards you want to keep. As you do, the word
HOLD will appear under your choices. When you're satisfied with your selections, touch
Draw
to draw new cards. You begin the game with 1000 credits and win when your hand matches one of the
categories in the payoff table. You can use the
Bet One and
Bet Max buttons to control
the amount of your bet. The maximum bet is 5 credits.
Hints
By default, VPT will display a blue dot above the cards it suggests you hold as soon as the hand is dealt.
Using the Settings menu, you can change this so that the blue dots are displayed only when you touch
Draw and the app disagrees with your play. You can also turn off the hint feature completely. VPT's
suggestions are (nearly) optimal in the sense that they will produce the best results over a long series
of plays. It is certainly possible that another play could do better on any individual deal because of
the luck of the draw.
Landscape Mode
If your device supports landscape mode, VPT will display larger cards and buttons and eliminate the payoff
table when in that mode.
Adjusting the Sound Volume
You can use your volume control to adjust the sound level. VPT respects the Media Volume setting
on your device.
Menu Items
- Settings:
- Show Hints: use this to control how VPT displays hints. Simply touch your choice.
- Every time a hand is dealt: blue dots will indicate VPT's suggestions as each hand is dealt.
Note: in this mode, VPT will automatically 'touch' the cards it would hold so that you can just
touch Draw to make the suggested play. You are free to make a different play if you like.
- Only when different from my play: when you touch Draw, VPT will check whether its play
matches yours. If it does, play continues normally. If not, VPT will display blue dots to indicate
its suggestions. You can then alter your play if you like. Click Draw again to continue.
- Never: VPT will not show suggestions.
- Machine Type: use this to choose the machine you want to play.
- Set Credits: use this to reset the number of credits.
- Enter Hand: allows you to enter a five-card hand in order to see VPT's suggested play.

When you touch OK, the hand will be shown in the machine and VPT's suggestions will be indicated by
blue dots.
